How can we be sure we will be happy with the way we have lived our life?

Peace, power and deep satisfaction come from living your life in a way that you absolutely know will end well. Over the years I have struggled at times because I just didn’t know whether I was investing my time, talents and energy in the right pursuits. After lots of prayer and meditation I came to an understanding of my purpose and mission in life. Having this understanding doesn’t protect me from making mistakes from time to time nor does it insure that I will always be right on target but it does give a “North Star” to chart my life with on a day to day basis. This is one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Recently I came across an article written in the Harvard Business Review. The author is one of the most highly acclaimed consultants in the world and a professor of business at the Harvard Business School. In this fascinating article he outlines his own discovery of purpose and how each of us can claim the peace, power and fulfillment of living a life that is based on fulfilling our own unique purpose.

The First Step To Learning is ...

In my last post I shared the need to learn before we can earn. I mentioned the fact that there is a learning curve in every occupation and even in every activity or sport in which we find enjoyment. Our business is no different in this regard. We too have a learning curve. However, what sets us apart is that we have a culture that is different from every other business I have ever observed: we have thousands of successful leaders who are willing to share all their secrets with any new person who is willing to LISTEN.

You guessed it, the first step to learning is to LISTEN. Too many of us invest too much of our energy in trying to be heard, trying to say something or impress someone. Most of us don't invest enough time and energy trying to hear what someone else is saying. How can we learn if we do not listen--especially if we don't listen to those who know the way to succeed by actual experience? There are many types of listening and I am not going to list them here because for our purposes they don't really matter. The only type of listening that will allow you to learn what you need to know to win in Unicity, and in life generally, is this type: "Listen with the intent to understand." This is the essence of the 5th habit of Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Successful People". This book is one of most successful books ever written and if you haven't read it lately I urge you to do it now.

Most importantly I urge you to make a commitment right now that you will listen today at least twice as much as you did yesterday. If you do you will learn some pretty useful knowledge and you will be better prepared to live your dreams.

A Reality Check!

I often meet people who expect to make massive income in network marketing and do so quickly. And yet most of them have never made massive income before in anything else. I try to help these people realize that all significant incomes have a learning curve. For example, physicians are required to go to 4 years of Undergraduate Study, plus 4 years of Medical School, then 3-7 years of Residency and some do another 1 to 3 years to specialize. As a result, many doctors spend up to 18 years of schooling and training to qualify to become licensed physicians. Those requirements often leave doctors with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt, before they are allowed to even begin making an income. Talk about a learning curve!

Success in network marketing has a learning curve too, but a small one in comparison to medicine, a legal practice, accounting or just about every other traditional career path. In Network Marketing, part of the learning curve is simply learning the Step-by-Step process of how to run your business according to the success pattern already established. Another part of it is having the discipline to stay focused on your goals until you get good enough at the business to achieve those goals. I will share some specifics ideas on how you can fly up the learning curve with Unicity in next week’s posts.

The Time is Now!

To all my friends,

Over the past few days we have had a few of our US leaders come to the home office to be filmed for a new video we are producing. It was great to spend a few minutes with each of them individually. I love to hear what is going on in the lives of our leaders. I want to know what they are doing that is giving them success. Here are some short snippets of insight from each of those I visited with along side their picture.

T. Gray:

Success is coming because we are being consistent in the delivery of great training and wonderful product results. The results from the products are beyond anything we have ever seen before. The business rewards are just as impressive. I am seeing people earn $2,000 to $5,000 their first month and then be able to duplicate that success in their new teams.

Phillip Song:

I have never been more deeply focused on Unicity than I am right now. My wife and I know that this is the time to make the next big drive to a level of financial freedom. However, the money is not the really important motivation for me—I want more quality time with my family and friends, this kind of time only comes when you have passive income. We want more of it—and now is the time to get it.

Dr. Annie Varughese:

Even though I only joined Unicity 9 months ago I feel like I have come home. There is such a feeling of comfort and peace in this place. I have had wonderful success using Bios Life Slim with my patients but the relationships I have built on the business is also very rewarding. I am excited for the future.

Ten Thousand Diamonds

A big part of my job is to work with our Franchise Owners all over the world in order to educate them, to motivate them, and to build their belief in their own talents, dreams, and abilities—and in Unicity as the map they can use to reach their dreams. That’s a big part of your job too, by the way.

Sometimes I’ve done this with just one person in the room or on the phone, and sometimes with tens of thousands. But one of my favorite times was at the close of the 2010 Unicity Global Convention in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this year.

Close to thirty thousand attendees had just finished watching a spectacular production that honored thousands of Franchise Owners who advanced in rank during the year—and honored the leaders who’ve made an undeniable difference in improving the lives of others all over the world. Messages delivered were translated in over twenty different languages!

Then it was my turn to talk. Time was short. I had no desire to steal the limelight from our leaders. I wanted to leave with them a vision, an idea, a story that they could take home and share with others.

I’ve been asked on numerous occasions to share copies of what I said—and honestly, it wasn’t really ever written down. I knew at that point in time my job was to open up my heart, to open up my soul and let others see what I see for Unicity.

Recently we’ve had those remarks transcribed. I want to share with you today what I shared that day:

“There are so many people who need to feel what we’re feeling right now.

Millions of people are living below their potential—scraping out a bare existence because they have no one to lead them.

When we come together and we see people achieving their dreams, it builds within us both the desire and the confidence that we can also achieve our dreams.

What you’ve seen here over the last few days and what you’ve heard here is important, but it’s not as important as what you felt here. What you felt here will stay with you forever if you will nourish it and protect it, and most of all, share it.

Share your dreams. Believe in them. Share your passions. And most of all, share your love for people everywhere. Because we are Unicity—one family—brothers and sisters in search of a better life. Let’s not stop trying to share our opportunity with other people.

Someday your life will be over. Someday you’ll be at the very door of death—and I know what that looks like. When you’re at the very door of death you won’t be thinking about money, you won’t be thinking about supercars, or even Patek Philippes.

You’ll be thinking about how many people you have helped to be better and happier.

That will be your legacy. It will be your final thought—so I pray that the number is a big number.

That as you think those final thoughts, you’ll have thousands and thousands of faces that will go across your mind; that you will think of, and be grateful for.

I’m grateful. I’m grateful for all of you. You who lead, who paid the price to win—and I know it wasn’t easy, but you have become an inspiration to thousands and tens of thousands of people.

We have leaders here from all over the world, and they have seen it, and now they can feel it.

About eight months ago, Khun Joe, Khun On, and I met for a short visit in Hong Kong. Khun Joe asked me, ‘Why do you go to Japan so much?’

I said, ‘Because we’re working hard to build the business in Japan.’

He then said something that has changed my life forever. He said, ‘If you come to Thailand every month, we’ll build a fire so big they’ll be able to see it in Japan!’

So Japan, can you see it?

Europe, can you see it? Philippines, can you see it? Korea can you see it? North America, can you see it?

Are we going to stop here? No! No stopping! We’re going to build a fire so big that they see it all over the world and they can warm their hearts by the fire, and they can feel confident because of it.

We are going to be the biggest—the biggest direct marketing company in the world!

Nothing can stop us now. Nothing! But, we need you to be up here (on the stage). We need you to rise to a higher level of leadership excellence.

A hundred diamonds is not enough!

A thousand diamonds is not enough!

We need ten thousand diamonds!

That’s the vision—ten thousand diamonds!

Do you believe? Do YOU believe? We’re going to do it!

Bios Life Slim--let's tell the world!

Today I received an email from one of our franchise owners in the USA. It caused me to reflect again upon the urgency we all ought to feel about sharing Bios Life Slim with our family and friends. With permission I am posting that email here for you to read. Hopefully it will inspire you to educate and motivate your loved ones to make this amazing product a part of their daily health regimen.

Hi Stewart,

I have been wanting to let you know the story about my parents and their experience with Slim and finally feel ready to share.

When I returned from Salt Lake City last year, I was excited to try the Slim and get my parents on it. My dad (Mel) had been in very poor health (cancer survivor, hip replacement, open heart surgeries, and at the time was recently diagnosed with diabetes), so I was really anxious to see what it could do for him.

Because they are retired and on a fixed income, I was giving my parents two boxes of Slim a month to use. Mel had to take a shot of insulin daily and sometimes at night because he was prone to cheating with his diet. After just a little over one week, his sugar levels were fantastic (even after pasta). He did not have to take a shot of insulin from April to August while he was using the Slim, he felt great and was very active.

My mom lost over 30 pounds during this time and she was very skeptical of the product from the onset. She is a huge believer that this product is what has helped curb her cravings and allowed her to manage her weight.

Because my mom was using the product three times a day, Mel started cutting back because he did not want to ask me for a third box each month. I went to visit them the last weekend of August, they were getting ready to leave for a vacation. Mel seemed to be in pain and I asked him what was going on. He told me that he had stopped taking the Slim two weeks prior and he could really tell. He told me that he had to take insulin shots for the first time since April because his sugar was out of whack. I was upset with him and told him that I would rather spend a little extra money each month and have him feeling good and he agreed to start taking it again as soon as they returned from vacation.

A few days into their vacation, my mother called and Mel's organs had started to shut down, he was rushed to the Emergency Room in Memphis. He was put on life support and never regained consciousness again. One by one his systems failed and he passed away on September 11th.

Now, I am not sending this to be all depressing but because I am convinced (and my mom is convinced) that the Slim gave him a better quality of life and when he stopped taking it - his pancreas was the first system to fail which affected all the other systems. I am not a doctor obviously but it's just too coincidental to ignore.

To end on a positive note, my mom has continued to use Slim and is now down 48 pounds. She said she'd like to lose another 10 or so but I think she looks fantastic. I wish she had done the Sim challenge to begin with.

Cultivating Discipline Harvesting Success

It’s starting to look like Spring here at the Unicity Global Headquarters. The snow is beginning to melt from the lower elevations on the mountains and all the trees and bushes are budding. Springtime reminds me of a story about two farmers.

Early each Spring, the two farmers look out over their fields. In their hearts, they have similar desires—that the coming Fall season will provide them with a vast harvest.

All Winter the first farmer spends time cleaning and sharpening his tools. The second farmer looks out over his field—hoping that the Fall season will provide him with a vast harvest.

As soon as the snows melted, the first farmer is out in his field carefully preparing the furrows and removing any large stones, while the second farmer looks out over his field—hoping that the Fall season will provide him with a vast harvest.

After the last frost, the first farmer is out in his field dropping his seeds carefully into the furrows and gently covering them with soil. The second farmer is also out—casting his seeds on the ground as he walks around his field.

Throughout the long, hot Summer, the first farmer toils—herding the thin line of irrigation water to the end of each row and pulling weeds wherever he sees them. The second farmer paces the floor of his house—hoping that it will rain and the Fall season will provide him with a vast harvest.

Come Fall, the first farmer has a vast harvest. The second farmer is disappointed again with his meager harvest—wishing that it had rained more and that the birds hadn’t eaten so many of the seeds that he cast in the Spring.

Both farmers are good men. Both have the same desire—that the Fall season will provide them with a good harvest. With a large harvest, they would be able to provide for their families, have seeds for planting in the Spring, and prosper by selling the surplus in the market. Yet despite their equal desires, the first farmer’s harvest was so much larger than the second farmer’s.

The first farmer went beyond just hoping for a good harvest. His desire was more than a mere wish—it was a motivating conviction that moved him to action. The first farmer, in order to bring about his desire, took actions—even though harvest time was far away and there was no guarantee that the weather would cooperate, he still took actions.

The first farmer was cultivating more than crops, he was cultivating self-discipline. When we take actions that move us in the direction of our desires—especially when we can’t see what the outcome might be—that’s self-discipline.

Seeing the Possibilities

Just two hours drive to the north of our Unicity International offices, on a lonely stretch of desert, is a historic site called Promontory Point. Here, less than 150 years ago, the United States’ first transcontinental railroad was completed.

A story is told of a local farmer who stopped his horse, laid his plow on its side, and walked to the edge of his field to watch the railroad workers build the railroad he had heard so much about.

He saw them level out the ground, place wooden trestles, and then lay the heavy iron tracks on top of the trestles. When they were finished, a train moved forward onto the completed section.

Scratching his head, the farmer turned around and walked back to his plow thinking, “So, that’s it? That’s what this railroad is about? Tracks and trains?”

It’s true, the farmer did see tracks and a train—but what didn’t he see?

He didn’t see that for the first time, people would be able to go from one side of the country to the other in just days instead of months. He didn’t see that soon fruits and vegetables, and other food items, could be shipped to where he lived, and that whatever he was growing could be shipped and sold somewhere else.

He didn’t see that ideas, books, information, and entertainment could be shared and spread across the nation. He didn’t see that new people, different people, could travel and live wherever they wanted to live. All the farmer could see was the tracks and a train.

What he didn’t see were the possibilities.

Ironically, 100 years later when air travel became popular, it was the railroad that failed to see the possibilities. Instead of thinking that it was in the transportation business, the railroad only saw that it was in the tracks and trains business. As a result, many railroads went bankrupt.

Being able to see the possibilities, even in difficult circumstances, can change your future.

Over the past few years, most of the world has been experiencing significant economic and cultural changes. These changes require the ability to see the possibilities in order to thrive and prosper.

Here’s one way to view these changes:

For the first time in history an entire global generation is faced with employment insecurity, meager retirement, eroding company loyalty, and dissolving job satisfaction.

Or you can see the possibilities:

For the first time in history an entire generation all over the world is truly free to control their destiny. The power of choice is completely in the hands of the people. You can choose where and how you work; in fact, you can choose your income. Never before have country club connections and fancy pedigrees mattered so little—what matters now is the desire and discipline to work.

I see evidence of the possibilities everywhere in I visit. Bold entrepreneurs, both men and women, are taking personal responsibility for their financial future. This is nothing short of a revolution that values personal industry, creativity, and teamwork.

2010 Global Convention

Hello friends,

The Unicity 2010 Global Convention in Bangkok, Thailand is now history. It was truly one of the high points in my career in our business! For me it began minutes after landing in Bangkok, where, along with over 200 business partners, I joined in the Service Project where Unicity planted over 1000 mangrove trees to help reclaim precious ground from the sea. I was touched with the enthusiastic efforts of our President's Club members from around the world jumping into the mud and water to support this very worthwhile project.

The next morning I was awestruck the first time I walked the convention hall. The stage was the largest I have seen and the sea of over 20,000 chairs set up and ready got me excited for the event to begin. That evening the Black Tie qualifiers were treated like royalty as they enjoyed a special evening of food and entertainment.

I must admit to some nervous anticipation as the doors opened Friday morning. As the seats began to fill and flags began to wave, I saw my Unicity partners filling up row after row of chairs. I saw the excitement and anticipation in the eyes of everyone. Many of you had made great sacrifices to attend and I am grateful for each one of you. Once the event began the time flew by. Rather than try to put everything into words I have attached some video links, as well as a link in the right side border to the Global Leadership Call I recorded while still in Bangkok.

I was inspired by the stories I heard. My heart was touched as I was able to meet many of you for the first time, and renew acquaintances with good friends I have worked with for years. I issued a challenge to everyone there to now go forward and share with others the feelings that they felt at the Global Convention. I plan to do that and I hope you will too. The vision I shared is 10,000 Diamonds. Will you be one of them? How many of your partners will join you as a Diamond?

Leadership strikes again!

On Thursday the 14th I boarded a plane for Bangkok. I arrived at 6:30 Saturday morning, the 16th. I cleaned up from the 25 hour journey and started my meetings. I met with five of our key leaders and spoke for a few minutes at the monthly Bangkok training meeting (attendance 6,000). Then I got back on a plane and began the 25 hours back to Utah. So it was 25 hours over, 12 hours there and 25 hours back. Was it worth it? Absolutely! Anytime I can be in front of highly committed leaders it is worth it. Why? Because I always learn something that can make me better.

On this trip I learned many important things that can help us be a better platform for your success. I was also inspired by a powerful young man with an incredible story. He joined our business in 2009. The obstacles he has overcome on his way to success are almost unbelievable. He lost his father when he was just 5 and his mother at 8. His grandmother cared for him until she passed away when he was 13. During these years he had to work long days at any kind of work he could get to help put food on the table. After age 13 he was completely on his own. He taught himself how to survive. He somehow managed to learn how to read and write. Before he found Unicity the most money he had ever had at one time was 6,000 Bhat (about $175.00). Now he makes a lot more than that every month. Life is better for him in ways that are beyond his ability to express. Leadership is what changed his life--a Unicity leader found him and helped him develop the skills, habits and mindset to transform his world and now he is doing that same thing for others. I was inspired--I hope you are too.

Welcome to a New Year!

How exciting to be at the beginning of a new year—twelve new unused months lie ahead. A new year where anything can happen and everything is possible!

The beginning of a new year has always been an important time for me. I try to do an evaluation of the past year's performance in all aspects of my life. This can be a sobering experience as I often come up short in some of what I had hoped to do and to become. Nevertheless, it is important to reflect and to renew the determination to keep pushing forward. As we all know, it is in the “struggle” that we develop the strength and refinements that bring lasting satisfaction.

I’m certain that there are those who did not achieve all of their goals for 2009. Each of us has had years when we didn’t really get where we wanted to go—or at least as far as we wanted. A year like that can be absolutely critical to our future happiness—if we choose our response to it correctly.

If we choose to mope about or engage in self-pity or worse yet, in blaming others, we are most likely to repeat the unsatisfying year or do even worse. On the other hand, if we learn from our mistakes, build on our successes, and reignite our enthusiasm, then that disappointing year becomes the platform for our future success.

All of the really important successes that I have been blessed to enjoy have come after a disappointment. In fact, it was from the failure to achieve that I learned what I needed to know to get what I really wanted.

I believe that success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals. One fundamental lesson I learned early in life is that hard work is the great equalizer.

You may not have all the talents another person enjoys but you can work hard enough to be equal to, or even greater, in achievement. In my 20s, I realized that there were a lot of people more talented than I am and

smarter than I am. I decided that if I was going Be, Do and Have, all that I had dreamed, I would have to work harder than those more talented people.

I consider that decision to be one of the most important decisions of my life. What about you? Your gifts and talents are what they are, but your choices are yours to make every minute of every day and it is in your choices that success is determined.

An important part of my evaluation has been our progress as a company. Unicity has enjoyed another good year. We certainly had our “struggles” yet we kept our focus on our goals and built on the success of 2008. I am pleased to say that we continued the trend of increasing success in each of our business metrics. I know that many of you also had strong growth in your respective businesses. Some of you have set records for yourself and a few have set records in the company. I applaud your success and hope that you will drive forward and build on that success in 2010.

This year, I continued visiting our global markets as often as possible—traveling more than 225,000 miles in airplanes. I crossed the Pacific Ocean 20 times and the Atlantic 8 times. Occasionally I’m asked, in the age of email, instant messaging, video conferencing, and VOIP why do I travel at all? Why don’t I let technology do the work? Does personally being there really matter? Aren’t I running myself ragged?

I confess that there are occasions when those technologies come in handy. And there are times when being away from home is downright painful. But I can tell you this: personally being there matters. It’s important to me to sit knee-to-knee and eye-to-eye with a

leader, a government official, or a prospect. It’s important to me that they can sense my love and commitment to making life better. Traveling two days for a two-hour meeting on the surface may not seem efficient, but in the right situation, it is very effective.

As a company, our passion, our unique ability, and how we create significant value in this world is that we build people. I have learned that building people happens best one person at a time and usually face to face.

Certainly, we improve health by offering state-of-the-art nutritional products. In addition, our Make Life Better Foundation has raised and donated millions of dollars to charities.

However, another company may be able to match our service projects and charitable contributions, in fact, other companies may try to imitate our products; but they will never be able to match our passion and our matchless, one-of-a-kind capacity to build new distributors into thriving, prosperous Franchise Owners.

We offer people the tools, training, support, and encouragement they need to prosper—and they can’t get this anywhere else. Building people is about showing them how to create a growing income, how to build a business that gives them control of their life and allowing more time to spend on the things that are most important. Building people is about giving them choices, power, motivation, education, and helping them see the possibilities.

Something magical happens when people start to grow into their potential.

We teach people how to teach people and how to live better. In short: we teach people how to be leaders. Building leaders always requires getting

knee-to-knee and eye-to-eye. It requires building and sustaining value driven relationships. Dag Hammarskjold, past Secretary-General of the United Nations, said, “It is more noble to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses.” Just imagine the growth of Unicity if next year every single Franchise Owner worldwide taught just one other person how to be an effective and self-reliant leader!

Leadership is about vision and imagination and stretching for greater heights. It’s about affirmation and encouragement. It’s about teaching and correcting. It’s about good listening and good coaching. It’s about planning with a purpose and working hard to turn good plans into good results. It’s about changing lives for the better.

When you become a more effective leader—with your Franchise Organization, or at home, at church, in the community and elsewhere—your life changes for the better, too.

Let us make 2010 a personal call to leadership. Becoming and creating leaders should be our highest priority, our greatest strength, our most significant contribution, and our solemn promise.

Long time, no write!

What a whirlwind we have been riding these past couple of months. When I made my last posting to the blog we had just finished another record month in May. Inside the company we were working "Mach 2 with our hair on fire" trying to get Bios Life E ready for launch at the Deer Valley Leadership Summit in July. It was a horse race right down to the day but we made it and oh what a success the launch was.

Bios Life E has already exceeded our most hopeful expectations. We have had to produce four times our original supply just to keep up with the demand. Additionally, we keep getting more and more medical research proclaiming the benefits of key elements in Bios Life E such as the potent catechin (EGC), Choline and L-Theanine. Even our Chief Science Officer, Dr. Tom Cutler, is being surprised by the depth and breadth of the almost daily new discoveries and recently wrote "Is there anything this drink can't do?" One thing we all know here at Unicity corporate: Bios Life E is truly Smart Energy. We hope you are getting even smarter by using it regularly.

Measure and Report

Greetings,

I leave for Asia today and wanted to post a few thoughts before getting on the plane.

First of all let me offer a hearty congratulation to all of you for building a great May. The company continued its strong growth pattern in almost every market. Most of our markets were up double digits for the month as was the company overall.

One of things I was always aware of as a Franchise Owner was my own organization’s market share. In other words I would try to measure how my business was doing contrasted to the overall company. Eventually this became irrelevant as my business became 99% of the company’s business. However, in the early days this was not the case.

Being focused on where you are and where you want to be can make the difference between major success and just getting by. One of my favorite quotes is from Thomas S. Monson and goes like this:

When you deal in generalities you will never succeed,
When you deal in specifics you will rarely have a failure.
When performance is measured performance improves, and,
When performance is measured and reported back the rate of improvement accelerates.

This piece of wisdom has been a great benefit to me. When I find myself slowing down in my productive actions I can almost always find the reason why in this little quote. I get back to dealing in specifics and back to measuring my performance and my productivity comes back pretty quick.

Four Stages

Hello friends,

The other day I was reminded about a talk I heard years ago given by a leader in our industry. He spoke about the Four Stages of life. He said that at any given point in time everyone is always in one of these stages.

The stages are:

1-Building
2-Managing
3-Excusing
4-Blaming

Interestingly enough each stage easily leads into the the next stage unless disciplined action is taken. Only the first stage produces happiness and productivity. When we are "Building" we are in a state of advancement and that brings us the good things of life but more importantly it brings us deep personal satisfaction. During the "Building" stage we may be working like crazy and under all kinds of pressure but we don't find it unpleasant or unhealthy. In fact most people say that when they look back on their life it is the memories of those seasons when they were "Building" that bring them the most happiness.

The other three stages are a slippery slope leading to misery and disaster. When we slide from "Building" to "Managing" we are choosing to leave the role of leader and builder and become the person who says "Do what I say, not what I do." When we are honest with ourselves we know that example is more important than words and we go back to "Building" and set the proper example for others to follow.

If we don't break out of the slide and get back to "Building" we soon move from "Managing " to "Excusing". This is a miserable place. The person who is in this stage has an excuse for everything that goes wrong in his or her life. People in the "Excusing" stage are really unproductive because they spend so much of their time coming up with reasons why they are unproductive.

When a person is in the "Excusing" stage it is very hard to avoid the slide to the "Blaming" stage. That move is actually pretty short. It doesn't take much time to move from coming up with excuses for your failure to actually putting a name with the excuse or even as the excuse. When a person reaches the "Blaming" stage he or she is really at rock bottom. They have given up all personal accountability for their situation. As a result of choosing to blame others they no longer have confidence in their own ability to make things happen--it is always someone else's fault.

The good news is that any and all of us can decide in a split second to leave the "Managing", "Excusing" or even the "Blaming" stage and get back to "Building". We all have the ability to take response-ability for what happens to us and be a "Builder". At Unicity this choice carries huge implications because we are in the leadership business. What we do is what others will do. If we are "Managing" or "Excusing" or "Blaming" we will have many people in our organizations doing the exact same thing. But if we get back to "Building", and stay there, we will find the people in our organizations building too and that is what we call leverage.

People have asked me if it is possible to always stay in the "Building" stage and the answer is YES!!! In fact it is essential that you stay there, at least if you want to be happy and successful. So keep "Building", build new skills, build new habits and most of all build new leaders. You will feel great as you do!

The Time is Now!

Greetings everyone,

It has been a while since my last entry--no excuses just working hard and having fun.

As the world continues to muddle along in this recession Unicity continues to grow. We are seeing month over month growth in sales and new franchise owners. Slim is one big reason for that growth. Another is our incredible compensation plan! I hear amazing stories every month as brand new people join us and make more money in their first month or two than they did in the previous six months. One woman told me that she made more in her first month with Unicity than she did in her last 12 months in her old business.

Are you taking advantage of this truly great moment in time?
Have you made your goals?
Have you resolved to make the changes necessary to build a stronger and better life?
Are you investing in yourself?

I ask these questions because I know what it takes to break out of the cycle of mediocrity—you CAN’T do it by degrees—you have to bust loose much like a car gets free from being stuck in the mud. So bust loose! Make it your determination to be somebody special—to do great things and to no longer live an ordinary life. The power is in you!

I thought you might like to see a few pictures from the recent Japan National Convention.

This picture is of the Ikari family. They were elected MVP for 2008 by the other leaders in Japan. This couple is an outstanding example of leadership. There is a great feeling of team spirit in their organization which they support about as perfectly as it can be done. That is probably why they were selected by their peers to win the MVP award.

Japan Convention

Greetings everyone,

We have just concluded the Japan National Convention. The theme was "Make The Future". It was a great event with about 2,000 people attending. We recognized two new Rubys, three new Sapphires and 4 new Presidential Executives.

The keynote speaker was the Gold medal winner in Olympics for Judo. He taught life is always about choice. A person can use failure to make him stronger and prepared for greater success or to justify quitting the pursuit of his dream. We choose what will be!

He then shared some very powerful experiences from his own life supporting the principles he had taught. I found his presentation absolutely great!

The Japan Management Team had also invited Dr. Neal Secrist, a Presidential Diamond from the US, to attend and present at the Convention. He did a great job teaching about the power of Slim to help people avoid many health problems, in addition to burning fat. Neal also briefly talked about why a doctor would want to build a Unicity business. Dr. Secrist was joined on this trip by his wife Kim and I understand they were both treated very well by their new friends in Japan!

It is great to be around people who are focused on being positive--I love this business.

Honor for Unicity!

Greetings everyone,

With the travel schedule I have had since the first of the year visiting our leaders around the globe, I almost can't believe it; I haven’t been in a hotel for two weeks! I am fully adjusted to the Mountain Time Zone. I don’t have an airline reservation for another 4 weeks. I think I may have stepped in to someone else’s life—but I like it. Hopefully you are doing and feeling as well as I am.

There are always minor glitches that happen in our lives. For instance my computer just crashed and I have lost all my future appointments and reminders. I started to feel a little irritated and then I remembered that I have been using a computer for 20 years and this is the first time I’ve had one crash—that’s not too bad. If I can go another 20 years until it happens again I will feel pretty blessed in the computer department.

Sometimes you get some pretty cool surprises too. This past week I got a letter from the Governor of the State of Utah congratulating Unicity for being selected as one of the Top 500 privately held companies in America. I was pleased to find that we had been selected as #87 out of the top 500 in the USA and #1 out of the top 100 in the State of Utah. Another fun thing that happened this past week was getting to listen to an audio presentation I had done 14 years ago when I was working as franchise owner. My good friend Paul Kero sent me this MP3 file he had found of me making a conference call presentation to potential new partners. I wasn’t too sure I wanted to listen to myself from 14 years ago but my curiosity finally overwhelmed my fear of feeling ridiculous. I quickly found myself transported back to 1994—some great memories. After listening I decided I was ready to sign up all over again. I am currently re-reading Napoleon Hill’s classic book “Think and Grow Rich” – for about the 50th time. It is as inspiring to me as it always is — I fully recommend it to you. The first three chapters hold the key to getting your business off the ground. The rest of the book will tell you how to achieve dreams that you didn’t believe were remotely possible for you. I have been reading this book since I was 21 years old. The title sometimes puts people off but don’t let it bother you. The book is not really about money it is about learning how to turn dreams into reality. If you haven’t read it already - or if you haven’t read it in the last 12 months - you should do so immediately.

Great things are happening in Unicity right now. Make sure you are getting your share of the growth.

Dear friends,

This past weekend Todd Smith hosted a Diamond Leadership Summit for our top North American leaders. 100 leaders from all over the continent gathered in Todd's hometown of Sarasota, Florida to learn the principles that will propel them to Diamond status. The speakers included all the current NA Diamonds along with one of our Double Diamonds from Europe. The presentations were excellent and jam-packed with practical information that had me taking notes along with everyone else.

We welcomed a brand new Diamond to the club as Jan Bloom showed that she has the right stuff. There were two great nights of entertainment and fellowship. We had a sunset cruise in the Gulf and an evening in Todd's clubhouse on the beach. This was an event that helped everyone in attendance to catch the vision of the Unicity opportunity. I have been taking calls since I came home from leaders that have decided to take their business to a new level as a result of the vision they got in Sarasota.

What a week!

Hello everyone,

I returned home Sunday from Japan where we enjoyed two super events. The first event was on Friday where the President's Club leaders all came together in Tokyo for strategy discussions and advanced leadership training. The meetings were fantastic with an incredible spirit of unity and optimism. We then enjoyed an amazing formal dinner and great conversation. My appreciation for the skill and intelligence of the leaders in Japan just keeps growing.

On Saturday we took the winners of the bi-monthly recruiting contest to the base of Mt. Fuji for a traditional Japanese BBQ. After lunch we went to a curling center. For those who aren't from the upper Midwest USA or from Canada, curling is the sport where you slide a heavy granite rock on a 40 meter ice court trying to put it right in a certain area and not get knocked away by the opposing team. You may have seen this on the Winter Olympics. Let me tell you that this sport is a lot harder than it looks and incredibly more strategic than I had ever imagined. We all learned much about team building and strategy and even had a few moments when the "Stone" actually got in the "House."

I spent the day in the Utah office on Monday and then went to the airport at 4:30 AM Tuesday to catch my flight to Cancun, Mexico. It was snowing and 28 degrees Fahrenheit when I left Utah and about 80 degrees F when I got off the plane in Cancun--that was nice! The European leaders are enjoying their rewards trip here this week in a beautiful resort right on the water. In fact as I type this I am looking out on the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. I wish you were here--what I really wish is that I could stay a little longer. Tomorrow I go back to the office in snowy Utah but the good news is that 25 of our top leaders from Korea will be there visiting the corporate office as part of their reward trip. They are enjoying some fun in Las Vegas and then will come up to Utah for a tour of the offices and dinner at my home on Thursday. It will be good to see them--they produced a great year in 2008.

Like I said it has been quite a week. I should be exhausted, but fatigue gets swallowed up in the excitement and growth we are seeing around the world. Even more satisfying is the growth we are seeing in the leaders of our company in all of the markets where we compete. Let's make this another record year for Unicity, but especially a record year for you!

Greetings from Japan

Hello everyone,

I am back in Japan. Just got here yesterday for a special President's Club training and dinner. Japan is certainly on a roll right now having just posted another great month in January. This is especially impressive because in Japan the first week of the new year all businesses are closed. So they got it done in a three week month. I am proud of the work that is being done here by the leaders and the management team. They are really working together and the harmony is producing great synergy.

Whenever I come to Japan I have the added benefit of being able to drink our own special water. Yes, we sell a very cool bottled water here in Japan. I started noticing some time ago that when I would be here for about five days or longer (always drinking our own water each day) I would begin to feel really good. I had more strength and stamina, the jet lag wasn't so bad and the travel home was much easier. Now when I check into my hotel the staff smiles and hands me a bag with a large bottle of our water in it--the highlight of getting to my room is to begin hydrating with this water of ours. It has come to a point that I need to do some serious research as to why this is happening to me and what makes this water so special. I will begin that process on this trip and let you know.

Thailand Convention, Cabo

Hello from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!

I arrived yesterday from Bangkok, Thailand where we just held the Thailand 2008 national convention. The convention had been scheduled for early December but had to be postponed due to the protests that closed the airport. Regardless of all the challenges and hassles with making a change like this at the last minute the event was super! The attendance was about 6,500 strong and the energy was off the chart. Thailand has set growth records in 2006, 2007, and now 2008 and I am willing to go on record saying they will do it again.
On the way to Thailand I visited Hawaii and Japan and met with some of our great leaders in those markets. Japan had an incredible month in December with some of our young superstars growing by almost 100% month over month. The Japanese leaders tell me that 2009 is their year to break all the records. I won’t argue but Thailand, Europe and Korea may differ with them. When I told Joe, our top leader in Thailand, about the goal of the Japanese leaders to be the top market in 2009 he smiled and said “we’ll see about that.”

The sun is shining in Cabo, the beach is pristine, and the ocean a deep beautiful blue. This resort is wonderful and the service is beyond fantastic—in fact I have never had service like this in a resort hotel and I have stayed in some nice places. I think all our North American Paradise Reward Trip qualifiers are going to love it here.

Time for a New Sprint

Hello everyone,

I hope your New Year is off to a great start! I have always tried to teach that our business is a marathon and simply keeping going is the most important key to winning, but it is critical to remember that this marathon I speak about is made up of a series of sprints done at key moments. Right now is one of those key moments.

I want you to know that I am practicing what I preach. On Sunday night I flew to LA, Monday afternoon I flew to Honolulu, on Tuesday I flew to Tokyo and yesterday (Friday) I flew to Bangkok where I am now. In each place I had opportunities to meet with leaders and prospective new associates. Great things are happening in Unicity right now—this is our time and I hope you are making the most of the moment.

This weekend we will host the Thailand National Convention. We expect about 7,000 attendees and have a great program planned with some very exciting new products to launch. Whenever I visit this beautiful country I am reminded about the “Power of One.” It only takes one leader to change everything in a market. You can be that leader in your world and in your market. Buy a copy of the updated version of John Maxwell’s “21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”. Make it your mission to immerse yourself in the process of becoming a great leader and watch your world change into the world of your dreams. You can do it!

2009 New Year

Dear friends,

I wanted to wait until this first full week of January to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year!

Over the past few months here at the Global Headquarters of Unicity, we were able to watch an unusually rich display of color on the mountainsides as the leaves on the oak and maple trees turn a plush red.

Before these leaves faded, detached and fell, the oaks dropped their acorns and the maples released their seeds and they helicoptered out of the sky to land like assault forces to green the earth. The leaves then followed to cover, protect, warm, and nourish the seeds. Today, those same seeds are blanketed by a few feet of snow.

Darkness, cold, stony ground, mold, bacteria, birds, squirrels, bugs—all intervene, but somehow some seeds make it, and begin to grow. Some tenacious seeds take hold and hold on and hold on—for dear life. In the silence of the winter’s dark, they plant themselves and survive to become the next generation of trees.

This past year, I’ve planted a tenacious and vitally important seed. I announced that by 2012, Unicity will be a billion-dollar company. You and I will be the gardeners of that seed. Much depends on how we nourish and protect this seed—and even though we may not be able to see, this seed has already begun to sprout roots. New Year

Happy New Year!

Hopefully each of you has taken time with family and other loved ones over these past couple of weeks. I also hope that you have been thinking about your goals for 2009. A new year is a great time to make big changes in your life--you can do it anytime but the changing of a year seems to add power to the process.

It has been said that a person should make "no small goals as they do not have the power to inspire" and I have certainly found that to be true. So don't settle for little goals, rather make your mind up to do something truly significant. You may want to get really fit or drive your income to four or five times its current level. Whatever it is make sure the thought of it makes your heart beat faster and your imagination go wild.

One word of caution: don't pay too much attention to the news media. Negative stuff can really mess with your mind and cause you to fail in your goals. Unfortunately most of our news is negative and frankly it doesn't do you much, if any good, to hear it or see it--especially over and over again. So make your own news and be the star of your own movie and make sure it is positive. Let's go out and all have a great 2009--together!

Fat Season?

Are you suffering from too many sweets and too many parties? I am! This time of year is a tough time to avoid putting on extra pounds of fat. When someone gives me a special treat they made or purchased "just for me" I feel an obligation to eat at least some of it--and sometimes when I get started I just don't want to stop. After a few days of this I suddenly realized that I was moving the wrong direction. I knew I had to make a change and fast.

I don't know how it is with you but with me it is easier to discipline myself TO do something as opposed to disciplining myself to NOT do something. So I made this vow for the rest of the holiday season: Never eat anything unless I drink a Slim first. When I made this vow a couple of good things happened. First, the normal benefits of Slim kicked in and I didn't eat so much and I kept those Fat Burning Zones open. Second, I didn't eat as often. I love Slim but I didn't want to drink 15 servings a day. So now when someone gives me a treat I say: "Thank you, as soon as I have my Bios Life Slim I will enjoy some of this." Try it--its working for me.

Japan

We just finished a couple of high powered days in Japan. Every two months we hold a recruiting contest and the top five recruiters for each two month contest are invited to a special Saturday experience. We call it "Secret Saturday" because the winners don't find out where they are going or what they are doing until it happens. Last contest the winners went treasure hunting and were taught how to make pottery from professionals. This time the winners were given a special private dinner at Tokyo Disney World and then got to attend the Cirque Du Soleil. That show is amazing!

Tonight we just finished our Christmas dinner and party with the top 400 leaders. These leaders gathered to Tokyo from all over Japan. We had a great time reviewing the past year and making our commitments for 2009. It was obvious to me that these leaders feel like 2009 is the year for Japan to really breakout. In fact one leader said: "2007 was Thailand's year, 2008 was Europe's year but 2009 is going to Japan's year. Just listening to these dynamic leaders made me feel pretty confident that 2009 will be a great year in Unicity Japan.

The really important question is "What kind of year will 2009 be for you?

Korea

I enjoyed a great day with our top leaders in Korea on Thursday. We spent time reviewing what it will take for them to rise to even higher levels of success in 2009. We all agreed that 2008 was a great year--in fact it was the best year ever for Korea--but 2009 should be better. One of the resources we studied in our discussion was the principles taught in Jim Collins' book "Good to Great". If you haven't read this book lately I suggest you take time over the holidays to do it. I think it may help you with your 2009 goal planning and setting.

We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner together. As we talked that evening one comment kept coming up: trust. Several of the leaders told me that they beleived their business had grown so well in 2008 because of the increase in trust they had in the company. I was reminded of the new book I had just read called "The Speed of Trust" written by Stephen R. Covey. In this book the author reminds the reader of how slow and hard business transactions can be when there is no trust. He also teaches that with trust everything speeds up. Building trust takes time to do but once you have it everything good starts moving very fast. This may be another book to read over the holidays.

Burning Desire!

I am in between planes on the way to Asia and decided to share a thought with you. Lately I have been thinking about all the publicity certain self-development DVDs and CDs have been getting in the media. It seems like everywhere I go people tell me about the "Law of Attraction" and how it's going to change their personal world. Now I believe very much in the power of positive thinking but I have learned that this element is just one element in the process of success. It is critically important to think positive but if that is all you do it won't be enough. Along with the Law of Attraction there is another law: The Law of ACTION! Without applying this law your measure of success will be very small and not at all what you might have enjoyed.

Thinking positive--in the right way--will lead to effective action and that action will lead to success. How does one think positive in the right way? It all comes down to creating a "Burning Desire" in your heart. Goals start in your mind but need to be adopted by your heart before you are driven to the kind of action that will lead you to the fulfillment of them. This concept of a burning desire is explained in the classic book on success: "Think and Grow Rich". Don't be confused by the title. This book is not just about money it is about living the life of your dreams. Being "rich" means more than just having money--it means being fully actualized in your personal potential. Get this book (you can find a copy in any library or at any used book store) and read chapter two. Start creating a "Burning Desire" now and watch the "Law of Action" produce the quality life you desire.

Feeling Better?

I discovered early in my life that maintaining your positive mental outlook was essential to success. All of us are confronted with challenges and problems on our way to our goals. Some people manage to stay strong and upbeat no matter what challenges confront them. Unfortunately many other people crumble like an old cookie at the first touch of a challenge or problem. Why?

I used to think it was in the DNA. I thought that those who could keep their "Game Face" on and work their way through their problems were somehow different than those who didn't. Thankfully I learned that this was not true. All of us have the capacity to maintain a positive mental attitude and to do what is necessary to reach our our most desired goals. How? It's simple--just understand that while feelings can influence actions, actions can also influence feelings. And it is far easier to 'act' yourself into feeling better than it is to 'feel' yourself into acting better. Try it--you will love the sense of control you will get over your own feelings.

In the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving Day each year on the the fourth Thursday of November. So tomorrow, November 27th, is our Thanksgiving Day this year. I think most other nations around the world also have a day set aside to remember all of the good that has been given to them, a day to express gratitude.

There is no doubt that most of us have much to be grateful for this year. Certainly success in business is important and can provide many wonderful blessings, but in a deeper and far more fundamental way our hearts turn to blessings other than money and worldly things. Our families, our deeply held beliefs, our health and our opportunities to serve others and to be served by others. These and other considerations are on our minds when we think about gratitude, appreciation and thanksgiving. During this special time of year I think about these great blessings that have been given to me.

One of the more special blessings is my association with each of you. Over the past few years I have made so many new friends and hold those friendships very dear. I have strengthened old friendships and also treasure those associations. My sense of our purpose as a company creates a sustainable source of energy for me and I am very grateful for that. I hope you can feel my appreciation for you and all that you do to make life better for others in your sphere of influence.

Part Two of Four—How a modern diet and lifestyle has transformed the body from a fat burning machine into a fat storing machine.
See if this sounds familiar…
You get up in the morning and want breakfast. Maybe some pancakes with syrup, or some cold cereal with milk. Add some toast with butter and jam. If you’re in a hurry you grab a doughnut or a Pop Tart.
Have you eaten stuff like that for breakfast?
When that breakfast enters your body it’s converted to glucose and rushes into the bloodstream—the more sugary the breakfast, the faster and higher the blood sugar or glucose level rises in your bloodstream.
Your pancreas senses this spike in glucose in your blood. It responds by pumping out insulin and creating an insulin spike in response to the spike in my glucose level.
That surge of insulin works the way it’s supposed to—it opens up the doors to your cells allowing the glucose to enter and feed them—then the excess glucose is stored in your fat cells. Since your cells are feasting on glucose and the extra is being stored away, the glucose level in your blood falls.
But insulin takes a longer time before it detaches from the receptor site and leaves the body. Insulin is a long-chain polypeptide—and is a more complex molecule than glucose. So, it takes more time before it can leave your system. Glucose takes an hour to an hour and a half to spike up and come back down, but insulin takes three to five hours to do that.
In the meantime, your cells need nourishment 24-hours-a-day. However, with lots of insulin in your body, your fat cells can’t release those Free Fatty Acids to feed your cells—even if those cells are starting to want more food.
So what happens an hour or two after breakfast? You start feeling a little irritable, you can’t concentrate, you get tired, and then, the cravings begin! Do you get that way about mid-morning?
There you are, low blood sugar level, you can’t use your stored fat because insulin is still there blocking the way out, and you probably won’t wait 3 to 5 hours in order for your insulin to go away so you can feed your body with my stored fat.
So unfortunately, the obvious answer is to eat something to make your hunger go away and to feel more energetic, and so you grab whatever is around—maybe a Snickers bar from the candy machine. Have you ever done that?
Now, your glucose level spikes back up, which causes your body to release more insulin, which pulls that glucose back down into the cells, and the extra gets stored away in your fat cells again.
But because the insulin level is still high, you’re not able to burn any Free Fatty Acids. In other words, you’re adding to the fat storage, but never taking any out.
Now it’s noon, and you’re really hungry but swamped at work. You grab something quick for lunch. The fast food you eat forces your insulin level back up and the cycle continues into the afternoon!
You end up bathing your body in insulin the entire day. You understand that insulin is important; you have to have it in order to get the glucose out of the bloodstream and into the cells to feed them. But when you have too much insulin in your body for too long, it can create problems.
Your pancreas is straining to produce all that insulin, and that stress is bad. If it gets bad enough, you can develop adult onset diabetes—which nowadays you don’t have to be an adult to get—it’s even happening to children, and is called type 2 diabetes.
Month after month, over a period of years, this sort of cycle can wear out your pancreas, or your body becomes less and less sensitive to insulin so you need more and more of it in order to open the doors of your cells.
What’s more, your body keeps getting fatter and fatter because it’s storing fat at almost every meal but not able to burn much, if any.
That’s how the modern diet and lifestyle works with your body without Bios Life Slim.

Part 1 of 4—Your Perfect Body on the Perfect Diet

The Simple Science of Slim - How Bios Life Slim ignites your personal fat burning zone and fuels your energy.

It’s much easier to gain weight than to lose it. In actuality, it’s not our weight we want to reduce, it’s our size. For example, we don’t buy clothes based on how much we weigh, we buy the clothes that fit our size.
We don’t become slender by losing weight, we slim down by burning away excess fat.
“Diet programs” that promote weight loss actually cause us to lose water and lean muscle—not fat. And when we stop the “program,” we end up gaining that weight back—and usually a little more.
In order to lose fat, it helps to understand how our body stores fat and why it may be hard for our body to let go of the fat that it’s stored.

Perfect Inner Workings Here in Part 1, we’ll see how our perfect body works after eating a perfect meal. Let’s imagine that placed before us is a perfect meal. By perfect, I mean healthy— not something we unwrap, dip in ketchup, and wash down with soda and Oreos.
It doesn’t matter how far from perfection our actual body is, or how fast and fat our last meal was, it’ll help us understand how our body is supposed to work, and our body works best when fed healthy food.
As we eat, our body converts the food into glucose—a simple sugar that travels through our bloodstream. This glucose is food for our cells. Our cells get their energy from glucose—whether it’s a muscle cell, or a brain cell, or a cell in our heart.
Glucose keeps moving through our bloodstream until your body produces a hormone called insulin. As soon as insulin is made by our pancreas, it heads right to little receptor sites on our cells and attaches to them.
Insulin connects to the receptor site, and opens a “door” in the cell so that glucose can come inside and feed the cell. Without insulin, the doors stay closed and no glucose comes inside the cell, so we really need insulin.

Storage Sheds for Glucose If we eat more than we need, our body has a way to handle this problem. Along with our brain cells and muscle cells we also have fat cells. Our cells don’t eat more than they need, so when we have more glucose than our cells need, that excess glucose is stored in our fat cells.
Once the glucose is out of the bloodstream, with the cells having been fed and the excess having been stored away in our fat cells, then insulin closes the doors on your cells, detaches from the cells, and eventually leaves your body.

Food Storage When our body’s cells want to have more energy (glucose), and we don’t have any food handy, our fat cells come to the rescue. The glucose that was stored in them is converted into molecules called Free Fatty Acids.
These Free Fatty Acids can go right back into the bloodstream. They don’t need insulin to open all those doors, they go right in, that’s why we call them Free Fatty Acids. Free Fatty Acids efficiently feed us at the cellular level—we have energy and strength even though there was no glucose.

The simple explanation of this is that our body is burning away stored, excess fat to meet its own needs. That is how your body works in a perfect world. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world eating perfect meals with our perfect body. Most of us store too much fat and don’t burn enough. Part 2 of Simply Slim will tell us how our bodies work with our modern, not-so-healthy diets.

A week ago we held a special reward day for some of our emerging new leaders in Japan. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the events of that day but I was thrilled with the report I received from Mr. Brian Lee our Senior Vice President over Global Resources.

In the course of the day one very smart and talented young leader, Kaori Tamiya (age 21), asked Brian to pass along the following questions to me. I thought they were great questions and decided to answer them in this posting to my blog.

Here are her questions and my answers.

1—What was your biggest problem as a distributor with Unicity?

I had the same challenges all new distributors have. My biggest problem was that I worried too much about what other people thought about me. When I didn’t stay focused on my goal and allowed these negative thoughts to get control of my mind it caused me to slow down in my progress and become less effective in the work that I did. Fortunately, I quickly learned to think only about what I wanted to have happen in my life and to keep my belief in myself and Unicity high. This discipline allowed me to reach my goals and ignore the noise that would try to distract me.

2—What made you the most happy in your time as a distributor?

I was most happy when I was able to help other people reach their goals. Seeing people in my organization become stronger and more financially independent gave me great happiness.

3—Who did you first talk to about Unicity?

My first contacts as a distributor were to my most successful friends. I knew that to be successful I had to associate myself with people who knew how to be successful and had the discipline to do what was necessary to succeed. I was new and inexperienced in Unicity but I didn’t hide that from anyone I talked to, I just shared the facts of the business and the products with all the enthusiasm I had and let people choose for themselves. Most of the people I talked with in those early days didn’t join me, but some did, and all were impressed with my passion and commitment. Some of those who said “no” in the first year changed their mind and joined me in the following years. Enthusiasm and passion are very important and people always remember the people that have those two qualities.

4—What is your favorite product from Unicity?

My favorite product is Bios Life. The first product I ever sold in this business was Bios Life and over the years the formula has just gotten better and better. The new Bios Life Slim is an absolutely amazing product that has changed thousands of lives already and will eventually benefit millions of people. I have lost 5 inches off my own waistline and feel better than I have for 30 years.

5—How has that favorite product changed you?

Bios Life has impacted me in so many positive ways. First of all are the health benefits. I mentioned the fat loss already but I need to mention the benefit of improved cholesterol levels too. My overall cholesterol level dropped from 206 to 144 in the first 45 days I used Bios Life back in 1991. It has stayed down around 150 ever since—in fact I just had my blood tests done a few weeks ago and my cholesterol level was 151. At Unicity we see this sort of result so often we have become a little too used to it. Sometimes we don’t appreciate how amazing this product really is. We have the best overall health product for all people to be found anywhere in the world—I am absolutely convinced of it!

I have also benefited from seeing others improve their health and enjoy a much longer and higher quality of life. And finally I must mention the financial benefits that have come to me from Bios Life. Greetings from Switzerland,

We have just held our official opening of Switzerland. The event was in a truly spectacular location. Interlaken is a beautiful resort town in between two large lakes and surrounded by the Alps. With the Autumn colors and the first snows on the tops of the mountains I felt like I was in a postcard.

There were approximately 1300 people in attendance. People had traveled from all over the country to meet together. I was very impressed with the enthusiasm and energy I felt from the group. The leadership is some of the strongest we have in the company. All three of our Double Diamonds were with us and each taught some great business strategies.

The company announced a car program for Europe with BMW and also introduced Bios Life Slim. For all intents and purposes Switzerland has 3 national languages so our packaging includes German, French and Italian. Since Switzerland is at the crossroads of France, Germany and Italy I wouldn't be surprised to find us continuing our expansion in the EU.

Dear Friends,

I recently returned from our Global Convention in beautiful Busan, Korea. In my opening remarks, I shared my vision for the future of Unicity.

Our goals are big goals. Curt Hedges, our President, tells me that we are ahead of schedule to achieve those goals. I want to tell you about the ultimate goal, the ultimate vision. Let me sum it up. We intend to be the biggest, the best, the most dominating company in network marketing in the world. We are fully committed to becoming the biggest, the best, and the most dominate force in network marketing in our world today.

What does it mean to have that kind of goal? What does the vision look like? The first thing we have to do is think about who is the competition. Today there are four network marketing companies that do more than one billion U.S. dollars in sales each year. Just four. That’s all. We will be the fifth!

Today in network marketing, the number one company in our industry did $7.2 billion U.S. dollars in sales last year… the temptation is to think that this company is a big company. However, $7.2 billion is not a big company.

Of all businesses, the number one company worldwide last year did $379 billion dollars in sales. That is a big number. That’s so big that this company does more sales in a week than the number one company in our industry does all year long. That’s big. That’s the vision!

That company is not an oil company. It’s not some big fancy company in New York City. No, that company is headquarted in a small town in Arkansas. That company—the number one company in terms of size and success is Wal-Mart. A distribution company.

What do we do? We distribute things, Wal-Mart distributes things. Who would have believed that Wal-Mart would become what it is today? Fifty years ago, Wal-Mart didn’t even exist. Today it’s the worlds biggest company.

Do you think the world will always focus only on lower prices? That was the secret to Wal-Mart’s success. Give the customer what they wanted—lower prices, cheap things.

But I believe that the public is hungering for something far more than lower prices. I believe that the public wants—desperately wants, hungers for better health, for more hope, and most of all, for freedom.

This world is filled with people who have no freedom. They worry about just having enough money to feed their own family. They worry about having enough money to provide a home for their family. They worry about whether they’re going to lose their job tomorrow because their boss doesn’t really like them. They worry almost every minute of every hour of their day because they have no freedom.

I believe the hunger for freedom is the most basic, fundamental, driving motivator in our humanity today. People die trying to be free. People don’t die for lower prices. They die because they want to be able to take control of their lives. They want to be able to say ‘I have enough money so my children can have what they need'. They want to be able to say I have enough time to be able to do the things that are important to me—to have time for the people I love the most. They want to have enough of the things that matter most in this world. That’s called freedom. That’s what we offer—freedom.

We offer freedom. We offer better health. We offer hope. But deep down in the very roots of our existence as a company, our offering is to offer people freedom. Freedom from worry, freedom from stress, freedom from the outside world pushing in on them to crush them down, and to take their life away. That’s what we offer. I believe that there are millions who want this so desperately but they do not know where to find it. That is where we come in—that is our job to show them where and how they can be free.

3 New BMW's !

Berlin--Go Diamond!

On Friday and Saturday I worked with our Double Diamond leader in Berlin, Alex Krause. He had his 30 top leaders (all Sapphires, Rubys or Diamonds) in for a special training on Friday and then his top 250 leaders in for a special training on Saturday. On Friday night we went on a boat tour of Berlin through the canals that wend their way through the city. The dinner on the boat was outstanding and the classical music provided by a string quartet really set the tone--you knew you were in one of the great cities of Europe.

The leaders in this group are some of the most talented and focused leaders I have ever seen in any business. They know what they are capable of doing and nothing is going to stop them. I was so impressed by the clarity of their vision and their willingness to discipline themselves to do the things they know are necessary for success. There is a reason for Europe's astonishing success and growth and it is leadership like this using Bios Life Slim the way it is meant to be used to grow the organization. As I heard several times: "The business is the product and the product is the business."

Sunday is my 14th day on this "around the world" trip and I am ready to go home. I have visited Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Germany. The travel is hard and I miss my family, and my own time zone, but as Shakespeare wrote: There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood leads on to fortune, omitted and life is spent in the shallows and the miseries." The rewards for hard work right now are higher than they will be in a few years when the company is much larger. Now is the time to gain for yourself the market share you want--to stake your claim on the future. Our international markets are doing very well. The leadership is strong, the focus is sharp and the commitment is high. In the coming weeks and months I intend to be much more involved in the North American market. This market has as much potential as any market in the world. It is time to turn up the heat at home.

Up Country Thailand

On Tuesday I went up country to the twin cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. I spent the morning visiting the home of a brand new Diamond Kun Motawn in Chiang Mai. We had breakfast at his new beautiful home and then visited his office and distributor center. We then enjoyed a huge lunch with many wonderful Thai delicacies. Both breakfast and lunch were outstanding but meeting the people in this spectacular city was the highlight for me.

After lunch we traveled to Chiang Rai which is about two hours by car through the mountains. I felt like I was in Shangri-la. In Chiang Rai we visited Kun Rasa's office and distributor center and then stopped by her new office which is just being finished. I was impressed by how much these leaders invest in their business to support their organizations. They are truly running their business like a business and not like a hobby.

After the tours we visited Kun Rasa's spectacular new home. I was in awe of the change in her life in just three years. She has a small home just for her gardeners and that little house is bigger than the house she lived in just three years ago. Today she is in this virtual mansion. We had an incredible traditional Thai dinner and enjoyed a variety of traditional Thai activities such as being blessed by a Buddhist priest and letting six foot candle-lit kites off into the night sky. I also got to take a short spin around the neighborhood on the special edition Harley that Kun Rasa bought for her husband.

This day will be a day I never forget. I was treated with such kindness and respect. These leaders are extraordinary people and they have become such because they are committed to following the leadership of their leader Kun Joe. His system based development culture has proven to be the key to large scale development of world class leaders. It is always inspiring to visit Thailand.

Thailand

I arrived at midnight on Saturday--that was a very long day! Sunday afternoon was the rally. As we drove up to the arena--yes arena--the place was buzzing. The police were there to manage the crowd which I am told numbered 5000 plus. Joe, our top leader in Thailand, knows how to put on a great event. The first thing you see as you go toward the entrance is all cars of the President's Club members. About 30 new Mercedes lined up and one brand new, and very exotic, white Porsche which belonged to Joe.

The event went from 1pm to 5pm with no breaks. The surprising thing is that no one left, or at least it was not noticeable if anyone did. The room seemed as full at 5pm as it did at 1pm. As usual the atmosphere was electric and very high energy. The MC was great. She is the host of the nightly news on TV and she is also an FO. There was a segment where a celebrity fashion person interviewed three other celebrities about Unicity's skincare products. All four are FOs.

Dr. Jerry Bresnahan gave a great presentation on the power of Bios Life and then we saw the most amazing film that detailed the life of a man who had been told he needed to have his leg amputated because of diabetes. The man couldn't walk but desperately didn't want to lose his leg. His nurse just happened to be one or our FOs. She suggested he should try Bios Life and he did. She documented the progress over about three months and it was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen. After the film finished the man himself walked on to stage with nothing but a cane and he didn't use that much. Dr. Bresnahan went up on stage to express his deep respect to that nurse who was also there. WOW!!! The whole event was fantastic and I left fired up about this amazing product that we have.

Tomorrow I go up north to visit the homes and offices of our key leaders in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. I will let you know how it goes.

Japan

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday I visited Japan. Friday we had a powerful leadership seminar with the very top leaders in the country. What a great experience that was for me to see these mostly very young leaders showing such intelligence and drive. I feel the Japanese market is going to become very big.

In the evening we went to a famous, and very old, restaurant for dinner. I am not exaggerating when I say there were 14 courses. After having my Bios Life Slim it was virtually impossible to do justice to that exquisite dinner.

On Saturday we held the first "Secret Saturday". This is an event that I host every two months in either Tokyo or Osaka. The top five sponsoring FOs for the previous two months are invited to an all day adventure. But since it is a "secret" they don't know what to expect. We had a blast! We first did a helicopter tour of Tokyo--I thought this was incredible. What a city Tokyo is--14 million people at night and probably 25 million during a work day. We saw the sights in a way that only is possible from a helicopter. Then we got on our own private cruiser and cruised around Tokyo Bay while we had sushi and sashimi. We also had a leadership competition--which I lost and our newest leader won. She sponsored 17 people in one month so I don't feel so bad.

Then I and a few of our top leaders got a plane and flew for six hours to Bangkok, Thailand. I wanted these young leaders to meet our top leader in Thailand and attend his semi-annual rally. Check my next post for what happened in Thailand.

Korea

On Tuesday and Wednesday I attended a leadership conference in a beautiful mountain resort near Pusan, Korea. There were about 1000 Korean leaders in attendance. I had invited Double Diamond Dr. Sven Goebel to be the keynote speaker to the group. He did an outstanding job explaining how the Europeans had been so successful building their businesses over the past few months. As I have noted in earlier posts the EU market has grown dramatically since the introduction of Slim. There have been six new Diamonds achieved and several times that number of new Sapphires and Rubys.

The Korean leaders were quick to take note of Sven's advice. They have done very well themselves since Slim was introduced in Korea but being smart people they are always ready to learn and get even better. The staff in Korea are getting down to the final preparations for the 2008 Global Convention in Pusan this next month. It is going to be incredible. I hope you will be there!

If you want to burn fat faster read this!

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I was talking to one of our top leaders in Europe. He is absolutely on fire with the business. We talked about some of the things he is doing to have so much success so quickly. He reminded me of some of the KEY BEHAVIORS required to produce fast success in our business. I will talk about these behaviors in a another entry. But this conversation got me thinking about other key behaviors that can change our lives.

The first thing I thought about was key behaviors required to burn fat. Most people gain fat because they just don't understand how the body operates or they don't have the strength to do the key behaviors long enough to turn on the fat burning process in their own body. That is why Bios Life Slim is so important--it facilitates the KEY BEHAVIORS, it makes them easier to do and accelerates the fat burning process without stimulants.

If you will adopt these five simple behaviors you will become a fat burning machine. You will look and feel better than you ever have. You will age slower and look younger and have more natural energy than you have since you were a ten year old. Are you ready? Here they are:

1) Take Bios Life Slim at least twice each day, one serving before each of your highest carb meals! Doing this consistently makes all the other behaviors much easier to do long term. You DO want to look better and feel better LONG TERM don't you?

2) Eat a high protein, low carb breakfast every morning!

3) Eat small, well balanced meals!

5) Reduce the daily amount of processed foods and simple carbs (sugary foods) that you eat! Processed and excessively sweet foods drive insulin up fast and keep it up long and that pretty much eliminates any fat burning for hours. You don't need to be a monk but don't be a glutton either.

Well that's it--if you use Slim you will find all the other behaviors come easier and easier and fat burning happens more and more often. You will be able to eat great food and still look great and feel great! That is one of the main secrets to living a full and long life--you DO want that don't you?

A Great First Half!!!!

Hello everyone,

We just closed the books on the first half of 2008. It was an outstanding start to the year and was our best six months in quite a few years. We expect the second half to be even better and the early forecasts are very exciting.

When I first became a franchise owner back in 1991 I would hand out audio cassettes to look for people who might be interested in our business. The tape that I liked the best was a recording of a presentation that I did called "Right Place/ Right Time". In that presentation I talked about the key element of timing when it comes to massive success. Yes, success takes intelligence, hard work and variety of other elements but too often people forget the role timing plays in success. Timing matters much more than most people think!

Right now Unicity is at the special place we call the "right time". I have been in this industry for nearly 20 years and I know what the right time looks like and this is it. Don't miss it because you will remember that mistake for the rest of your life. This is your time to build financial independence--Right Place, Right Time, Right Now!

Long Time!

Hello everyone,

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted. The reason is simple: we have been working around the clock to meet the demand for Bios Life Slim. In 18 years in this business I have never seen anything like what we are seeing now.

In Europe Slim continues to roll and we are expecting another record month in July. Keep in mind July in Europe is typically vacation time and not a high productivity season. The Leaders in Europe tell me they have no time for a vaction right now, they are too busy building market share.

We did a one day launch of Bios Life Slim in Korea in late June. The result was simply unbelievable. In just one day of sales Korea broke the current full month record for Bios Life Slim sales that was held by the Europe market. Europe had posted the largest month in the company for Slim sales in April and Korea broke that record in a single day.

Japan is gaining ground each week as the leaders begin to understand the power of Bios Life Slim. Since Slim is only being sold NFR (not for resell) in Japan at present progress is not as explosive as Europe and Korea. Japan will have OTG (on the ground) Slim in the coming months.

We are truly excited by Slim's success in improving the health and wellbeing of whoever uses it. We are also excited about the people whose lives are being dramatically enhanced by the financial success with Slim.

We are in Japan educating our distributors here about Bios Life Slim for a couple of weeks. We will be offering it for the next few months on a Not For Resale (NFR) basis only. Brent Morrill has just finished with his tour of Europe. The growth there is stunning! Two of our Diamond leaders made their first month of qualifying as Double Diamond last month and I hear that a third Diamond will make his first qualifying month as Double Diamond this month. These are our first Double Diamond qualifiers worldwide and it thrills me to see it happening.

A very short visit to Paradise

On my way to Japan I stopped in Honolulu for about 15 hours to do some meetings with our rising stars in the Islands. We had a great time with as much enthusiasm as I have seen anywhere. The leaders of this market know that they are at the crossroads between Asia and North America. What a great place to build a business like ours that transcends boundaries. They told me that 85% of the people who live in Hawaii are from either Asia or the US mainland. I told them that they could be the most international group in Unicity with that kind of global diversity. I came away very impressed with the leadership group and pumped up about the future of Unicity in Hawaii!

Homeward Bound

Dear friends,

My very brief visit to the Maldives was great. There were 300 Unicity leaders at the resort and when I arrived I saw a sea of orange. All of our people were wearing orange shirts or orange swimming suits or orange hats or even orange flip flops. Unicity was 85% of the guest count at Club Med Kani and it felt good to me to see all that Reviv orange! I am not sure how it felt to the other 15% hopefully they got revived.

We conducted a special Presidential Club training with the 25+ club members who were in attendance and then a skills training for all 300 followed by a Q&A. After a quick bite to eat it was time to catch the speed boat back to the airport. When I arrived in the late morning I took this same boat out to the Club Med island and distinctly remember thinking that I was riding in the equivalent of a Mexico City taxi only on water. It was madhouse with boats careening every which direction. Well, the return trip at night was just the same without the benefit of vision. It was exhilarating to say the least. I was tired and sleepy before I got on the boat but wide awake when I got off 45 minutes later.

I am now in Singapore on the 2nd of my two eight hour layovers in the last 38 hours. (Note to Curt: I am really beginning to see the value of a corporate jet.) All joking aside, I am so pleased to have been able to show my respect for these wonderful leaders who, in many cases, have broken out of poverty and other very difficult circumstances and have chosen to be winners. Their examples will inspire many more to do the same. This is the very definition of leadership: to help others to reach their own potential. Thailand is setting the pace in leadership!

En Route to the Maldives

No we are NOT opening the United Arab Emirates for Unicity; I am just passing through on my way from New York City to the Maldives. As I mentioned in the last blog post we are hosting the winners of our Thailand spring contest there this week and I get to stop in for about 12 hours. It seems a shame to spend 28 hours flying to the location and 32 hours flying back only to spend 12 hours there but it is worth it. The great effort these leaders have made over these past four months is truly noteworthy and I want to acknowledge it personally. They posted a new record in volume and we have several new President's Club members to recognize. It will be great to show them how much we appreciate their success!

Dubai is an interesting place. I have had a chance to look around a bit since I have an eight hour layover. The mix between modern and very rich with the very traditional Arab culture is fascinating. The people are very friendly although immigration did confiscate my trusty tape measure. I never did get an answer as to why they thought it was dangerous but I have learned to never argue much with people who carry guns. In a few hours I will leave and yet I look forward to returning when I have more time to explore.

A great book I am reminded of when I consider where I am right now is Dr. Seuss’ “Oh the Places You'll Go!” Read that book—it is the story of a life well lived.

Greetings from Utah!

It is always great to be home after a long trip. This past visit to Europe has been the most productive international trip I have taken in many years. It was grueling but the work was so productive that I didn't really notice.

Brent Morrill and I traveled to eight cities in five different countries in eight days. In every city we did two events, a leadership training and a meeting to launch the Bios Life Slim marketing beta test. Every single event was better than we had projected it to be in our planning of the schedule. I offer my congratulations to the leaders in Europe and to the great employees of our business there. I also need to say a special thanks to Brent for his work over the past year to prepare this market to have this surge in success.

Our last day was spent in Istanbul, Turkey. We had about 400 franchise owners in attendance. Three members of the board of directors for the Turkish Heart Association attended our meeting and spoke to our group. They gave Bios Life Complete a resounding endorsement and have authorized the company to advertize their endorsement on each box. They have never done this before for any product from a network marketing company and our franchise owners are justifiably pleased. The market in Turkey is just getting started and it is exciting to see the fresh enthusiasm of the people.

Overall we met with more than 3,000 people during this eight day tour. I can say with some conviction that Europe is going to be a great part of the Unicity International future. What is very important to understand is how fast a market can take off when a critical mass of leaders join together in productive efforts.

The business can grow in a methodical way but it also can grow in a geometric way. Can you imagine what your business would look like and feel like if it grew 100% per month or even more--it really is possible. Are you ready for it to happen? Have you paid the price in personal development? Are there things you are not doing that you need to start doing? Are there things you are doing that you need to stop doing? Keep in mind that the leader usually grows before his or her business grows.

Be willing to ask yourself the hard questions. It is through honest and deep introspection that you will gain the insights about how to become a great leader. When you act on those insights your business will grow and it will keep growing as long as you keep growing.

You can do it and if you do you will love the way you feel and the world that opens up to you!

Greeting from East Berlin (the former Russian Sector),

Brent Morrill and I finished the meeting in Berlin a few hours ago. It was another absolutely super event with a crowd far in excess of what we had expected. We sold out of the product again which means we have sold out at every one of the seven events where we launched the beta test for Bios Life Slim. Europe has far exceeded our expectations in both product sales and the sponsoring of new leaders. Already Europe has set a new all time sales record and they still have a few days left to close the business month.

I have never been in Berlin before so I was really looking forward to this day. After the meeting Brent and I walked down to the famous Brandenburg Gate and walked along the remnants of the Berlin Wall. It was nearly midnight and I was exhausted but I couldn’t miss this opportunity to see where so much history occurred.

When I think about the places I have been and the things I have seen as a result of being in this business it simply overwhelms me. I would have never have imagined it possible but once a person starts on the path of growth with other people of ambition and good will there is no limit on what can happen.

Greetings from Europe,

It has been a blockbuster tour so far! We visited Zurich, Switzerland first, then Munich, Germany, Vienna, Austria, Frankfurt, Germany, Amsterdam, Holland and just finished in Koln (Cologne) Germany tonight. We go to Berlin tomorrow and Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday.

Already we can say with confidence that the business in Europe has set a new all time sales record! We still have Berlin and Istanbul to visit and the month to close but the record is in the bag.

The Franchise Owners here are simply amazing me with their commitment and leadership skills. Every meeting we have done to this point has been a complete success in every way measurable. The company representatives have simply been guests, and the local Franchise Owners have done everything from renting the facilities to setting up the displays. With leaders like these here in Europe it is easy to project that this market will be in the top 3 by year end--perhaps it will be Number One!

My Numbers

I was reminded today that I had never given my 12th week numbers from my Bios Life Slim exercise. These last few weeks are some of the busiest and most exciting of my life and with the tour we are on in Europe right now it is only getting more so. But belatedly here are my 12th week stats:

NECK SIZE--down 1.5 inches
UPPER CHEST/BACK--down 6 inches
WAIST--down 4 inches

So my total for the 12 weeks in the three measurements is 11.5 inches. I still want two more off the waist but everything else is about where I want it to be. I am confident I will get that last bit off the waist in the next few weeks. However, it justifiably goes slower as you get closer to your best size. Overall I am very pleased and especially because I didn't feel at all deprived through the whole 12 weeks--in fact I wasn't deprived as anyone will agree who spent any time with me and therefore this is a way of life and not some crash program that can only last a month or two. This product is going to make a lot of people very happy and healthy.

Brent Morrill and I just finished attending some outstanding meetings in Zurich, Switzerland. I flew in from the US this morning after taking a few days for a spring break with the family in Georgia. It is important to take time away but it is always great to be back to work. The events here involved more than 1,000 people from all over Switzerland. The Swiss people are not known for being too enthusiastic but today clearly proved that they can be as passionate about health, fat loss and financial success as anyone. We had President's Club dinner at a restaurant high above the city of Zurich. The view was spectacular and the food was wonderful.

I talked last entry about sharing thoughts on why a systematic approach is so important in your business. I will write more in the future days but for now just take a minute and ponder how well you would do in your journey for success if you didn't have the vision to see your destination.

Exciting Times

Its been a while since my last entry and that is simply a function of so much good stuff happening I didn't have the time to write. Most of our businesses in Asia are showing great growth and duplication. North America has not been this hot for years. (This increase in "temperature" has nothing to do with global warming and everything to do with a certain new product that has been in beta testing for the past couple of months.) Europe has shown strength that surprised all of us as the leaders there were included in the beta marketing of this new product. In fact I will be attending meetings in eight European cities in the next couple of weeks. I am told we will have record attendance at every meeting.

Amazing Thailand Again!

I am back in Tokyo now after three incredible days in Bangkok. We opened our new, beautiful and very large office on Saturday. There were about 500 guests and a few governement officials (one General) present for the event.

Our leaders here have all decided to buy new Mercedes when they become a Presidential Sapphire. Consequently our parking lot was full of very expensive cars and I think some guests thought we were moonlighting as a Mercedes Benz dealership.

On Sunday the distributors held a rally in a sports arena and had around 5,000 attend. The building was rocking and the people's attitudes were great even though some 3500 traveled by bus for 6 to 14 hours to be at the meeting. It is very hot in Thailand right now and the building's AC wasn't really up to the job of keeping 5,000 people cool as a result we all got pretty warm and sweaty but the place was as full at the end as it was at the begining--5 straight hours without a break. Great commitment produces great rewards and that was the message of the guest speaker and the theme of the meeting.

Great Times in Korea

I am still in Busan and wanted to share a picture of the new Advisory Board here. We are having dinner Korean style which I don't find too comfortable since you sit on the floor with your legs crossed. The friends I was with made it a great evening. The business in Korea is doing very well under the leadership of these people you see around the table.

I meet with the Mayor later today and then Christopher Kim and I are off to Bangkok to hold the grand opening of our new office there. I will send you some pictures of that ceremony in a few days.

I did my measurements today and stayed the same. So in 11 weeks I have lost 11 inches. I would have liked to see more but being on the road takes a toll plus as I get closer to where I want to be it gets harder to make big progress. All that said, I am thrilled with what is happening for me and many others.

Global Convention

Greetings from Busan (sounds like Pusan), Korea,

It has been a whirlwind couple of days but I am now comfortably situated overlooking the ocean in Busan, Korea, the site of our 2008 Global Convention. The hotel I am staying in is called The Paradise Hotel and is appropriately named. This is an incredibly beautiful city and setting. The shoreline is manicured beaches and hundreds of carefully sculpted bonsai trees. I have never seen anything like it. I am actually looking forward to going out for a run in the morning and I really don't like running.

I was in Japan yesterday and today. We mapped out the next 14 months of meetings for the market and the management team updated me on their new marketing campaign called "Size Down with Bios Life." I am very impressed with the passion and the intelligent planning. I think Japan has a strong future with this group of leaders.

I have meetings all day tomorrow with our leaders in Korea, and then on Friday we meet with the Mayor of Busan and tour all the facilities. Unicity is being given quite an honor as this is a city of 12 million people and hosting conventions is not new to them. We appreciate the recognition and courtesy and look forward to having all of you have the convention experience of a lifetime.

10th Week Measurements

Friends,

I am down another 1/2 inch of fat. It is sure encouraging to see these results from the tape measure each week but feeling so good in the process is a powerful benefit that can't be over estimated. Think about it, how many people actually feel good while they are on a diet. I have never met anyone who does. With Bios Life I am NOT on a diet and yet I am losing fat consistently week after week and I feel great.

A couple of days ago I visited with a person who has been on Bios Life for a few weeks and has not had the same kind of success I have had. She wanted to know why. I asked her a few questions and found that she is eating six meals a day. You have probably heard that same advice from somebody. The idea is to eat little meals all day long to keep the metabolism high. There is ONE REALLY BIG PROBLEM with that idea: the person who does this is keeping their blood sugar high all day and that means they are keeping insulin flowing through their body all day and that means they aren't burning any fat all day. They are just living on glucose and the body doesn't burn fat when it has glucose to burn. A person should eat three healthy meals a day and if a snack is absolutely necessary then it should be small and very low in the glycemic index. If a person does this he or she will allow the body to access fat stores for energy. Bios Life really helps this process happen but at six meals a day even Bios Life can't overcome the blood sugar/insulin effect.

1. Eat three healthy, balanced meals each day.

2. Give yourself four to five hours between meals and 10 to 12 hours between dinner and breakfast.

3. Have Bios Life with your two biggest meals of the day and make sure you eat a high protein, low carb breakfast.

A Great Breakfast

I have been told that I should share my recipe for the best breakfast shake ever. Well here it is:

6 oz.s of water
4 ice cubes
1/2 cup of Costco Frozen Blueberries
1/2 cup plain yogurt--not low fat, not sweetened, not flavored
2 scoops of Unicity Quadplex Protein

This is really delicious and delivers a low glycemic, high protein breakfast that will keep you satisfied until lunch.

Too many people skip breakfast. According to the experts this is the number one reason people get fat. Bad breakfasts are not much better as they just spike your blood sugar creating a huge insulin response and delay the burning of fat for hours. If you will eat a low glycemic, high protein breakfast you will set your metabolism high for hours and keep the fat burning process open.

I am hearing more and more testimonies about people using Bios Life that begin to feel like exercising. At first it may just be wanting to go for a walk but soon it turns in to light jogging and then more. Recently I woke up one morning and ran 6 miles on a treadmill. Can't Sleep

I finished my work in Florida a few hours ago and I should be sleeping--but I can't sleep!!! I remember this used to happen to me when I was first starting in Unicity back in the early 90s. Things start happening so fast you just can't help being excited and sleep is hard to get.

We had another great day yesterday with about six more FOs choosing to join the team here. I think that adds to about 11 or 12 new partners in 48 hours. One guest told me that he was type 2 diabetic and had tried Bios 10 minutes before his dinner. He said: "After that particular dinner my blood sugar always spikes to about 180 but this time, with Bios Life, it only went to 124. I thought it must just be delayed so I checked again one hour later and it was 110. This really works--I am in!"

At our final meeting last night we had triple the attendance we had expected. The mood was incredible as we talked through where things were going. The facility manager finally kicked us out so she could go home. The conversation kept going in the parking lot and that is way things are when people begin to see what Bios can do and what that means for them both physically and financially.

9th Week Numbers

8th Week Measurements

Yesterday was my 8th week anniversary. I was on the road and didn't get a chance to do my measurements until this morning. I was down 1/2 an inch in the waist. I was up a 1/2 inch in the chest for zero change over all. I started lifting weights a couple of weeks ago and that probably accounts for the increase in my chest/back. The half inch loss in the waist is good but not good enough so I am going back on the ChitoRich and EquaLean boosters. I am also going to try our Contouring Cream. Burma Hicks and Darlene Long tell me that it will really tighten up the skin and I need that around my neck.

I hope you are staying focused on your goals. Experts tell us that the secret to happiness is self control and moving forward in a positive direction. So Be Happy!

Amazing Thailand in U.S.

Six of our top leaders from Thailand have just finished enjoying a great visit here in Utah. They had earned a week long trip to the USA by driving phenomenal growth in their home market.

They started with two days in Disneyland with VIP privileges. Then they came up to Utah to meet with me and other corporate executives and see the corporate offices. Considering it doesn't ever snow in Thailand we decided to take them out on a snowmobile ride. That was a truly unique experience for all of us! Everyone came back safely. I think we have some new snowmobile fanatics now so we may see some more of Thai visitors to Utah in the winter. Soapstone!

We had a powerful leadership roundtable discussing how to keep their amazing growth going. Great insights were shared and new plans developed—I think Thailand is going to set another record in 2008 and that will be the fourth record year in a row. I continue to be inspired by the strength of a leader who makes his or her mind up to just go make things happen. There are always going to be the people who say something can’t be done. Fortunately there will also always be those people who ignore the naysayers and just go make their dreams come true. Our friends from Thailand are those kind of people and I can pay them no higher compliment than to call them LEADERS!

7th Week Data

I am back from a long but successful visit to Japan. Being on the road for so long must have affected my fat loss or maybe I just over ate with such great food and the loss of my normal routine. Regardless of the reason the fact is I am only down one half an inch this week for a cumulative 10 inches for the 7 weeks. I am motivated to get this fat off me and I know it will be a lot easier at home.

Fat is different than many people think. On the body it isn't dense like a pound of butter rather it is more fluffy. That is probably why people feel tighter and less jiggly when they start losing fat. Check out this link for more:

New Japan Presidential

Tsujita-san - New Presidential

The Japanese people have always been recognized as very hard workers. As they have become more excited about their future with Unicity their work ethic gets even stronger. Consequently the tour here has been very busy, but also very successful.

It hasn’t been all work though. I did take one day off and spent part of it a hot springs spa. Hot spring spas are a very important part of the culture of Japan. The Japanese people essentially wrote the book on how to do a spa. Keep in mind they have been doing spa treatments at hot springs for several thousand years. I am not joking—some of these hot springs had people enjoying them before Rome was built. So they really have this down to science. Being the only non-Japanese person in the place I felt a little uncomfortable at first but everyone treated me so well the feeling of awkwardness went away quickly. When I finally left I felt so relaxed that I nearly had to be wheeled out!

Then it was back to work. The pictures you see are of a distributor-sponsored event. We came and supported it but distributors organized and ran the event.

It ran flawlessly, as most things do here. I am told there were about 1,200 people in attendance. There was a new 22-year old Presidential Club member recognized and the energy was sky high.

It is always impressive to me what a leader can do when she or he decides to get out and lead. Gender doesn’t matter, race or nationality doesn’t matter, age doesn’t matter, only desire and discipline are needed to make things happen. I hope you are making things happen in your life; a wise person once said there are three kinds of people in the world:

Those that make things happen,
Those that watch things happen,
And those that wonder what happened.

Make sure you are in the first category—it is much more pleasant there.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Since it is my sixth week anniversary I did my three measurements today. I was down another inch for a total of 9.5 for the six weeks. It is great to see the continued progress but I think it could have been more if I hadn’t been on the road all week.

I was recently reading a report from the National Institutes of Health that going to bed early and getting a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep is the best thing a person can do to stimulate HGH. Apparently, one of the many benefits of HGH is that it helps a person reduce body fat. That is probably one reason why so many aging celebrities use it.

However, the scientists at the NIH claim that early to bed and a good sleep is more effective than injections of the hormone itself. Well, suffice it to say that I am not getting much sleep over here in Japan, but we are growing the business, and Bios Life works in spite of not enough sleep.

Six Meetings of Excitement!

My visit to Japan has been amazing. After six days and six meetings I am more fired up than ever. You can also see from these photos that I am not the only one excited with Unicity in Japan—we haven’t been able to fit all who wanted to attend in the rooms. I still have five more days and six more meetings and I expect things to just keep growing. The Unicity story is very compelling. All a person has to do is talk to people and tell our story and other entrepreneurial minded people want to know more.

Tomorrow is my 6th week anniversary so I will be doing my measurements and then report to you what progress I have made. It should be interesting to see how things work when a person is on the road the whole week. I will let you know soon.

Greetings from Japan

I arrived in Osaka last night to begin a two-week visit. It was pretty nice being home for nearly six weeks but it is also exciting to be back working in a country that I have really grown to love. I will do 12 meetings while I am here and expect to be speaking to several thousand distributors. The Japanese people are great relationship-builders and so our business comes naturally to them. Bios Life is starting to become a powerhouse here as people learn how it can help them in so many ways.

When I got up early this morning I got my tape measure out because this is my 5th week anniversary. I thought that my numbers might not have improved as much as they have in the last few weeks—especially since I had just been sitting on airplanes for about 20 hours. To my surprise, I lost another 1.5 inches for a total 8.5 since beginning just five weeks ago. I can’t tell you how much this motivates me. Getting this fat off my body is making exercise a “want to” idea instead of “have to” obligation. Success breeds success. The more I have success the more I want it. How about you?

National Heart Health Month

Some of you may already know that February is National Heart Health Month in the United States. As a company we consider the eradication of heart disease to be one of our primary missions.

For nearly two decades Bios Life has been at the forefront of balancing cholesterol levels and bringing down triglycerides in people all over the world. It is not an overstatement to say that Bios Life has saved many, many lives and increased the quality of life for tens of thousands of people. Unfortunately, our efforts, no matter how valiant, are a drop in the bucket. We need to do more and we are going to do more.

4th Week Results

I just took my fourth week measurements. Good news! I have burned more fat and lost another 1.5 inches. So in four weeks I have lost a total of 7 inches. This is getting real exciting!

Burning Fat

Yesterday was my 3rd week anniversary of turning my body into a fat-burning-machine. The results are pretty good.

Neck + Chest + Waist = 5.5 cumulative inches lost!

I'm also down 10 lbs, but weight loss isn't what I'm looking for - it's all about fat loss!

Did you know that 1 lb of fat is 9 times bigger than 1 lb of muscle - wow!

What does this mean? A person doing things right could be burning fat but not losing much weight, especially if they start exercising. Make no mistake, it is the excess fat that will kill you. Where the fat is located on your body is also critically important. If the fat is around the central part of your body it is very dangerous.

The good news - when you turn your body into a fat-burning-machine, it burns that fat for fuel and you feel great!

As many of you know we are a company focused on getting positive results. Many of our competitors are very good marketers. I have heard some of their key people say “We can sell anything!” At Unicity we choose to be different. We don’t boast about being able to sell anything. In fact we ONLY want to sell proven products that produce measurable and positive results. In fact our product philosophy can be summed up in four words: Real Science, Real Results.

I just received the following email from one of our great leaders—Philip Song. He just returned from a long trip to support his teams in Asia and wrote the following:

This person came from the East Coast, left with product he had purchased, and he left me with the impression he was coming on board with very serious intentions.

It has been 9 days since I got those bad results from my annual physical. I started my own plan using Unicity International’s products and already my waist measurement is down 1.5 inches and my weight is down 8 pounds. More importantly, I feel great!

Annual Physical Time

It's that time again...annual physical. Every year for the last six or seven I have been going to a fitness institute for an all day physical exam. Today I went in for this year’s check up. It is very expensive (around $3000.00) but well worth it. These doctors are the top of their fields and have all of the state of the art equipment. This year they added a new piece of equipment that analyzes your whole insides from skeletal structure to bone density to fat levels and it even shows you where the fat actually is in your body. I should have the results soon!

Happy New Year!

I hope each of you enjoyed a restful and renewing break this past holiday season. I enjoyed being with my family and doing some skiing. The pictures you see here are taken while I was skiing in some glades at a resort near our office in Orem. In fact you can see Orem in the distance from the top of the mountain.

I love the mountains. Maybe it is because there are so many great parallels between building a business and climbing a mountain. Every time I am up in the mountains I remember these parallels and even think of others, and that motivates me even more. As we begin a new year I would like to share some of these parallels with you over the next few weeks in my blog.

First of all, in order to build a successful business or to scale a difficult mountain peak you need to have a clearly defined goal and be committed to it. Just wandering around a mountain will not get you to the top, in fact most people who wander actually end up going downhill. In order to get to the top your objective needs to be clear and straightforward. Mountain climbers have clearly defined goals—they have a burning desire to reach the top of the mountain. People who desire to build a successful business need the same clearly focused goal behavior. You must establish where you want to go and when you want to be there. Wishy-washy people simply don’t accomplish great things and they never reach their potential and that is very sad.

Hopefully you have already made your goals for 2008. If not please do yourself a big favor and do it NOW! You will accomplish so much more by taking the time to set your sights on the summit you want to achieve. Unicity International is going to have a great year in 2008. Make sure you are a part of it!

Destinations and Activities

On Friday we enjoyed the visit of five of our franchise partners. It was great to see some old friends and make some new ones. This group of leaders are from Wisconsin and they are on fire with Bios Life.

Paul Kero is the upline leader to the group and one of my great friends. He and I worked closely together when I was a distributor. In fact Paul and I flew my airplane from Salt Lake City to the St. Louis convention in 1998. It was great fun for me to have a former American Airlines Captain flying “co-pilot” with me. Paul spent some time on that flight teaching me the key principle of staying focused on the flight instruments when flying through the clouds and stormy weather.

I have never forgotten that lesson. All of us will find ourselves in stormy weather from time to time. What we think about, and stay focused on, will determine whether we sail right through the clouds or panic and crash our airplane. When I was building my business as a franchise owner I had some days, and even some weeks and months, where I was flying in cloudy weather. I was able to stay in the air and reach my destination because I stayed focused on my activity goals.

I believe there are two types of goals. There are destination goals and activity goals. Destination goals are those big goals that you dream about and visualize daily to keep your enthusiasm high and your perspective correct. Activity goals are those actions you have determined that lead to success.

In my franchise owner days my activity goals were summed up under the heading: The Three 3s. I made a commitment to invite 3 people to look at my business every day, to present the business details to prospective distributors at least 3 times per week and to enroll at least 3 new distributors each month. The Three 3s were my flight instruments that kept me in the air flying toward my big goals even in stormy weather. What are your flight instruments?

2007 MLB Academy Korea

We just finished a great three day leadership training here in Korea. 700 leaders gathered at this beautiful ski resort and listened to top leaders teach great concepts. The Bios Life Franchise was launched and USA Presidential Diamond Rick Jordan taught the principles he has used to become one of the top leaders in Unicity International worldwide. Topics such as the importance of consistent daily action. We also had some great fun skiing and enjoying the hot springs and spa.

The key theme of this year’s MLB Academy was preparing for, and building towards, the global convention to be held in September 2008 in Pusan, Korea. They are looking at the global convention as the most important launching pad for their businesses they may ever have. The Korean leaders know the power of events in our business. When you attend events you build your belief in the business, the products and yourself. The bigger the event the more power it has to launch your business. The key, of course, is the leverage you get from having as many people as possible attend with you. The cumulative increase in belief drives your business in to the next level.

The leaders also talked about the need for unity and I was impressed with the unity of the different Korean leaders and how they committed themselves to support one another regardless of organization. It is true a rising tide does lift all the boats on the water. As we all work together and treat other people the way we would like to be treated magic happens in our lives and in our businesses.
During this event we made a very significant management change in Korea. Christopher Kim has been our General Manager in Korea for the last three years. He has done a super job building the business there and was recently promoted to Vice President, Asia Pacific. He will provide oversight to Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. I want to express my appreciation once again for the truly outstanding work Christopher has done in building the business in Korea. The leaders have a great love for Christopher and are sad to see him move back to the USA, but they are pleased that he will still be involved in the market as the regional VP. Our new GM in Korea is Bobby Kim. Bobby has spent this last year as a sales manager in Korea and been integral to the continuity of growth that has occurred in the last twelve months. I believe Bobby Kim will be every bit as successful as Christopher, yet he will do things in his own way.

I am grateful to be associated with so many outstanding individuals. In fact, who we spend our time with plays such a powerful role in what we become. Choose your friends and associates wisely.

Amazing Thailand

It is Monday morning here in Bangkok, Thailand. We just held the Unicity Thailand National Convention. It was an amazing experience to see thousands of motivated people all working hard to build their own businesses and make their dreams become their reality. In fact, the theme of the Convention was "Dare to Dream".

We launched our new product for the Thailand market - an all-natural proprietary blend of aloe, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes. "Reviv" was met with tremendous excitement! We had 5000 bottles shipped by air to be in Bangkok for the event and sold them all in the 90 minute lunch break. The main shipment of Reviv (pronounced "Revive") will arrive in about eight days and will probably be completely pre-sold before it even arrives. This product is hot and will be coming to other markets soon.

There were several major achievements in rank advancements at the Convention, but the most significant was a new Diamond by the name of Rasa. Rasa is a 35 year young woman who has never been involved with network marketing before Unicity, but in just thirty months she has built a million dollar business. You cannot imagine how her life has changed and the respect that is shown her by all her partners. What an inspiring story. Everyone was emotional by the end of her recognition. I don't think I will ever be the same. If Rasa can do it then you can do it!

On Friday night we had dinner at the home of our top leader in Thailand. He and his wife just finished building their beautiful dream home. It was featured in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine of Thailand. I have included some pictures for you. When the home show editor asked him how much his new home cost Joe replied, "500 Baht." That is about 20USD. When the editor questioned Joe about the price, he simply explained that 500 Baht is the cost to become a distributor with Unicity, so that was the cost of his new home. What a great answer! That 500 Baht that Joe and Orn invested to start their Unicity business is truly the investment that just keeps giving and giving as they continue to build their international business.

This is an amazing country and these are amazing people! I have learned what can be done in Unicity if dreams are followed by consistent and dedicated action.

Now I am off to Korea for the annual Make Life Better Academy. I will write more from Seoul.

Recruiting Leaders

Hello Everyone,

This past week I had the privilege of hosting two of our top recruiting leaders. Prudencio and David are winners in every sense of the word. Both have sponsored over 40 new frontline franchise owners this year. I invested a few hours to ask them the secrets to their success. Why are they so successful bringing new people into our business? They both gave me the same answer: "excitement and passion!". Both David and Prudencio have a strong conviction about the Unicity products and the power they have to change lives for the better. But they both know that our products won't do any good unless we go out and tell our story with passion and excitement. Too many people miss great opportunities and don't realize their own potential because they don't take action. One of the key leaders upline to Prudencio and David is Tony and Tony has a basic philosophy he teaches to all the people in his organization. Tony's philosophy goes by the acronym of "TTP" and that stands for "Talk to People." That really is what it all boils down to, we have the best products and the best tools and if you will just go out and talk to people you will have the same kind of success that Prudencio and David are having.

It is worth it!

Hello,

In my last entry I stated that while building the business may not be easy, it surely will be worth it. This picture is taken with my wife's cell phone from our dinner table. We met in Hawaii, after my visit to Japan, to spend a few days celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. As I thought about our 30 years together I couldn't help but think about the last 17 years in Unicity. The first two years were very hard, the next five or six were better, but still hard. As the years rolled by the business became easier and the financial rewards just got bigger. Everything I dreamed would happen for me did happen. It took time and it took working hard and working smart but it did happen. It was worth it to me, it will be for you too!

Hello everyone,

I finished up this visit to Japan with some great meetings in Nagoya and Tokyo. In Nagoya we met with the leadership group for the area in a roundtable setting and had some powerful discussions. There are some very strong and intelligent leaders in this market. I expect big things to happen in the coming months in Nagoya. On the next two days we held meetings in Tokyo. The energy level was very high and the buzz about Unicity Japan has clearly started to attract new leaders to our company. It is exciting to meet the people that are coming on board. One new leader was an Olympic figure skater for Japan and she is applying the same discipline to building her Unicity business as she did to becoming a world class figure skater.

My message in Tokyo was simply this: Recruiting is the key to success in Unicity. Yes we need to build our customer base, and yes we need to support our teams with good training and motivation. But our most important goal is leadership and leaders lead by example. If you want to create financial independence in any business you must create leverage, and for you to have leverage in our business you need duplication. For duplication to occur you need people in the business. In the end it all comes down to bringing people in to the business—are you doing that? I hope so because the rewards are so very worth it.

Greetings and welcome to the first entry of my Unicity blog. I have decided that this may be the best way for me to stay in regular communication with all of you and to share what I am doing and learning as we grow this great company together.

It has been said that leaning from your own experience is good but learning from another’s experience is even better. I certainly hope that you will benefit from my experiences. The commitment I will make to you now is to provide timely updates of the progress we are enjoying, the key points that we learn and links to valuable research and insights from other wise and reliable sources.

When I became CEO in February of 2006 I made a commitment to myself that still burns as brightly today as it did on the day it was first made. That commitment is to build with you and for you the best direct marketing business in the world. Our motto and mission is to “Make Life Better” and I take that mission very seriously. In the grand scheme of things there is really nothing more important in life than to make life better for people. None of us can gain more satisfaction in our lives than from doing good to and for others. Money doesn't bring happiness unless it is well used to benefit others. Fame doesn’t bring happiness unless it is used to influence the improvement of the lives of others. Nothing brings us more happiness and satisfaction than making life better for the people in our circle of influence.

At Unicity we make life better in three specific ways. 1. We help people feel better through our products and our support, 2. we help people look better in the same way and, perhaps most important, 3. we help people live better by teaching and supporting them in the building of their own business.

In the past 22 months we have refocused the company. We have built a team of corporate leaders that are committed to providing the most exceptional and supportive environment possible. While much progress has been made we are not where we need to be yet, and you can be sure that we are burning the midnight oil to get there ASAP.

In the coming weeks I will share with you some of the keys to building your business to levels you had never dreamed were possible. Our topics will include:
